Globally identified Swedish fashion model H&M faced this problem with one of its children's wear commercials in 2018. A Black baby sporting a hoodie with the slogan "coolest monkey in the jungle" was featured in the advert. This instantly led to controversy, as "monkey" is often used as slur in opposition to Black folks, and triggered many purchasers to boycott the model. Many folks, together with celebrities, posted on social media about their resentments towards H&M and refusal to work with and buy its products. H&M issued a statement saying "we apologise to anyone this will have offended", though this too obtained some criticism for showing insincere.
